These are the questions given through MTV and the answers I gave.

Question 1.

Hi Thirumeni ; 1)Can you please explain body, mind and spirit?

2) Who is this Micheal? Rev 12:7,Mat13:41,16:22,24:31,1Pet3:22

Thank you

Answer 1.

1. It is generally said that humans have body, mind and spirit. Body is the physical constituent of human person which will be transformed in resurrection transcending physical restriction.

Mind is the reasoning faculty. It can be the work of the brain. Both body and mind make a living creature. Spirit is the sharing of the divine nature. This is what distinguishes humans from animals.

2. Many Christian communities testify that Michael is a leader of the band of angels, the archangel. He is depicted as a warrior who fights for the cause of God. He is referred only in the book of Revelations (12:7). Angelology is generally an inter-testamental concept. Jewish, Christian and Islam religions agree on many of the elements in this regard.

Answer 2

40 days is important is for Christians for several reasons. Main reason is that our Lord spent 40 days in this world after His resurrection (Act. 1). Again, Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness in fasting and praying (Matt. 4). In the Old Testament rain poured on earth during the time of Noah (Gen. 7:12). Noah waited another 40 days to open the door of the ark. It took 40 days to finish the embalming of Jacob (Gen. 50). This was a general practice in ancient Egypt. Moses was on the mountain for 40 days (Ex. Chs. 24, 34 – Deut. 10). Israel wandered in the wilderness for 40 years (Nub. 14). Israel ate Manna for 40 days (Ex. 16). Goliath came to David for 40 days (1 Sam. 17). Elijah wandered 40 days with the meal he had prepared by God (1 Kings 19). Jonah warned the city to get better in 40 days (Jonah 3). See a full list of the importance of 40 in the Bible

The rains (in Noah’s day) fell for 40 days and nights (Genesis 7:4). Israel ate Manna for 40 years (Exodus 16:35). Moses was with God in the mount, 40 days and nights (Exodus 24:18). Moses was again with God 40 days and 40 nights (Exodus 34:28). Moses led Israel from Egypt at age 80 (2 times 40), and after 40 years in the wilderness, died at 120 (3 times 40; Deuteronomy 34:7). The spies searched the land of Canaan for 40 days (Numbers 13:25). Therefore, God made Israel wander for 40 years (Numbers 14:33-34). 40 stripes was the maximum whipping penalty (Deuteronomy 25:3). God allowed the land to rest for 40 years (Judges 3:11). God again allowed the land to rest for 40 years (Judges 5:31). God again allowed the land to rest for 40 years (Judges 8:28). Abdon (a judge in Israel) had 40 sons (Judges 12:14). Israel did evil; God gave them to an enemy for 40 years (Judges 13:1). Eli judged Israel for 40 years (1 Samuel 4:18). Goliath presented himself to Israel for 40 days (1 Samuel 17:16). Saul reigned for 40 years (Acts 13:21). Ishbosheth (Saul’s son) was 40 when he began reign (2 Samuel 2:10). David reigned over Israel for 40 years (2 Samuel 5:4, 1 Kings 2:11). The holy place of the temple was 40 cubits long (1 Kings 6:17). 40 baths (measurement) was size of lavers in Temple (1 Kings 7:38). The sockets of silver are in groups of 40 (Exodus 26:19 & 21). Solomon reigned same length as his father; 40 years (1 Kings 11:42). Elijah had one meal that gave him strength 40 days (1 Kings 19:8). Early astronomers tracked a cycle of 40 days for creating solar calendar. They also revered and celebrated this cycle in the practice of religion. Observing 40 days for various reasons can be seen in many religions and cultures including Hinduism. However there is no canon law that says you have to take confession every 40 days. We have to make confession when ever we feel that we have done some thing that need to be confessed. Also our Church fathers assert that any one who attends the H. Qurbana has to receive H. Communion. The fathers also says that if some one leave without receiving H. Communion after the service has to be excommunicated. To be precise, a baptized person has the right and duty to receive H. Communion as frequently as possible, if not daily. Question 3.

Dearly Respeced Thirumeni,

Please clarify my doubts

– Is there any scripture verses which portray the importance of intercession and prayers….of saints in our life? or is it a belief that has been part of the tradition??

– state of our souls once we have passed away? is it living or resting or dead?

-difference between paradise and heaven or is it the same?

– is the faith if reincarnation(as humans) totally disapproving or is there any basis to it?

Answer 3

1. Primarily our belief in the intercession of saints is a matter of the tradition of the Church based on Christian principles, teachings of our fathers and also the Biblical testimony. In the Bible in the New Testament we do not find many direct references to this. But there are clear occasions where we see the presence of the departed are active before our Lord. https://yuhanonmilitos.wordpress.com/2007/08/28/orthodox-position-on-the-departed/

for a detailed discussion on the matter.

2. After death, we believe that the departed continue a journey they started in this world with or without Christ according to what that person was like in this world till the second coming. We do not ask where because, the question where assumes a place, because the departed soul needs no physical space for its existence. So we ask the question with God or without God.

3. In our common reference we use these terms in parallel to mean the same.

4. We do not believe in absolute incarnation. Each individual is unique and will have only one life. How ever, each individual carry the traits of the ancestors. But this is not incarnation.
