A Dinner in Honor of their Bishop

A dinner was hosted by the board of elders and the board of trustees combined of the Independent Syrian Orthodox Church of North America (Burbank, which the Holy Synod of Malankara Orthodox Church accepted as one of its missions and asked me to be their bishop in charge) in honor of their bishop Mor Meletius on 8th June 2012. This was hosted at the remodelled banquet hall of the Church. The modified altar of the Church is also seen.

    Dear Thirumeni,
The Altar is beautiful. How many members are in that church? All are Syrians or Americans? Which language is used in Holy Qurbana? – Saju

Dear Saju, There are 300+ families in the parish. The H. Qurbana is conducted in English and Syriac. Their vicar will conduct in English, Syriac and Arabic. Most of them are Syrian origin. Some Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan origin.

The Malankara Church has accepted this congregation which was with the Patriarch of Antioch and was under their bishop of Western, but US split away from them protesting against the unlawful activities and money swindling of the bishop supported by the patriarch. There is a Malankara H. Synod decision on this. We will cater to their spiritual and episcopal needs as long as they require them and until they have a bishop from their own ethnic background. They do not have a bishop now. I am serving, by the order of our H. Synod as their bishop. The priest was ordained by their former bishop H.G. Samuel Yesu Mar Athanasius. H.H. Didymus I Bava Thirumeni, on a decision of the H. Synod, accepted him in his order. You can see the details in my previous postings.

    Dear Thirumeni
Thank you for continuing to keep in memory, prayer and spiritual guidance to this flock . In many ways the Malankara Orthodox Church has not really understood or taken in depth the liturgical study and action of the participation of the Church which flourished in Antioch and established the root for the first 16 centuries before our more initimate contact with them. Perhaps the children will go back and study the history and roots and we will yet see a glorious future. Would it be possible for us to have an Indian edition of Fr. Tarzi’s translated version of Patriach Barsoum’s book re published ? I believe this translation if it will be readily available in Kerala the Malankara Church will be blessed . Can you give your thoughts after discussing with the Fr. Tarzi ?
