Dear Thirumeni, Thank you for addressing the malady of media addiction in a Biblical context. The key I believe is not focusing our energy on preventing the malady (evidence, presented in your article, shows that prevention is futile), but rather on countering it.

    May I add the following…

How do we counter media addiction especially among youngsters? Three sets of people – parents, the church (clergy), and elders – have to have three attributes – credibility, accessibility and communicability.

A note of caution and hope: no matter what we do there is a fair chance that we’ll loose some of our youngsters; all is not lost. But, just like the father of the prodigal son, if we – people in positions of authority and responsibility – are credible (the son knew what his father stood for), accessible (father was available day and night) and communicable (what a hug the father gave!), they’ll be back.

    Dear Sunil
Thank you for your note on my article. Yes of course it could have been done. But the scope of the article does not call for that. It was an analysis of the Biblical position regarding the matter and it calls only for analysis and it is for the people who read it to put that in concrete situation. Each situation is different and each calls for specific response and plan of action. All that can not be part of this type of a study methodologically. That will be part of a sermon if you are addressing a specific audience in a given local context. Giving suggestions without considering the context will be misleading. The context in North America will not the context in Asia or Africa. So I had to leave it open for people of specific context to formulate their own action plan. However, your point is well taken. If you could post your observation as a comment in the blog itself that will be an appendix to the article. But it will not come as body of the article (the above comment and reply were originally through email communication)
    With love and prayers
    Thirumeni
