Selun Baslomo Qumro Rabo M’aliyo

His Holiness Baselius Marthoma Didymus I has entered eternal rest at 7.35 pm on May 26th 2014. He loved  and cared for me so much. When H. H. Baselius Marthoma Mathews II bava thirumeni decided to resign, called H.H.and said that it was H.H. turn to take the throne of St. Thomas, H.H. in turn at 11 in the night called me up and said, “aboone I need a unique name., there are too many Thomas in the sky”. I told H.H. “we will find one thirumeni” The name I suggested ‘Dydimus’ became H.H’s official name. H.H. asked me to assist H.H. in Angamali diocese which I did for eight months. One day H.H. made a surprise visit to my place at Mannuthy. I asked, “What is the matter thirumeni, a surprise visit?” H.H. replied “my failure is that I have an innocent heart in this world of follies” quoting a poem in Malayalam (ee kapada lokathil aathmardhamayoru hrudaym undayathanu en parajayam). His Holiness was too disturbed by the atmosphere people created there. His Holiness was a true monk and an innocent shepherd. These are my personal experiences. I would certainly miss H.H.  I request H.H.’s intercession on my behalf who is left in this world of follies. Holy father, a good shepherd, a true monk and loving father (Selun baslomo Qumro Rabo M’aliyo) GO NOW IN PEACE and pray for all of us.

Re-dedication Service 2014

I conducted the first ever re-dedication service of the diocese at St. Mary’s Unity Chapel, Mannuthy on May 15th and 16th. This service was prepared in the Church by H.H. Baselius Marthoma Mathews I of blessed memory in 1988. This is to prepare those students who completed 10th standard in Sunday school. Through this service the once baptized is given the responsibility of taking care of themselves before God after having reviewed what they have studied in Sunday School in terms of faith and theology of the Church, Biblical witness, Orthodox Spirituality, history of Christianity, social commitment, value of the integrity of family etc. They stayed the whole day at the chapel reviewing these topics under my guidance and then during the H. Qurbana the following day affirmed the faith and assured before God that they will safe guard it. They were prayed on and a cross that protect s them all in their lives was given as a mark of their re-dedication. As the first batch we had thirty students from various Churches of the diocese. Rev. Fr. Biju Aikkarakkuzy, the vice president of Sunday school committee and director Mr. M.P. Rajan jointly made and the physical arrangements with the help of few other teachers.

It is important for those who have taken baptism at infancy go through this process. During baptism a god-person took the responsibility to bring them up in Christian faith. But the candidates when become adults and mature need to take the responsibility themselves to live according to the dedication taken at the time of baptism. We plan to conduct this service every year.
